>> Screen legend, Elizabeth Taylor, died of congestive heart failure at age 79 on March 23rd in Los Angeles. Youngsters may remember her only as a well- dressed, bejewelled older woman, a philanthropist who advertised perfume and was a stalwart friend of Michael Jackson. But those who care about the Golden Age of Hollywood have been enthralled with her and her sparkling complicated life since she appeared on screen in National Velvet in 1944. She was 12 years old.

>> And would it brush your own 45 to look at an account of 5, 000 pounds in a solid bank? -[ unk ] big father? [ unk ] happy and go to heaven.

>> In 1949, she graced the cover of TIME Magazine. The article rhapsodized about her beauty.

>> She has heavy black hair and brows that are also black and thick, but not a whip too thick to frame her large luxuriantly lashed blue eyes which darken into violet in the least shadow. Her complexion has been described by an ecstatic publicity man as a bowl of cream with a rose floating in it. Cameramen have paid her Hollywood's ultimate complement to beauty. She doesn't have a bad angle.

>> Even her multiple marriages failed to taint her image. Taylor was married a total of eight times starting with her wedding to Conrad Hilton, Jr. when she was 18 and ending with her baffling union with construction worker, Larry Fortensky, in 1991. But eight marriages was small potatoes compared to her dozens of influential movie roles.

>> Aren't you happy with me? -[ unk ] I'm too happy tonight.

>> You seem so strange, so deep and far away.

>> Her films in the 1950s introduced and typified her role as a guileless yet sensual woman.

>> A girl too hungry for love to care how she goes about getting it.

>> Of course, sometimes, her film roles did coincide with her romantic ones. Her role as Gloria Wandrous, the young seductress in love with a married man in BUtterfield 8 earned her an Oscar in 1960. That film co- starred her then husband, Eddie Fisher.

>> Faster.

>> And she won her second Oscar for Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf in 1966, which co- starred Richard Burton, also her then husband.

>> Oh, baby. I did it all for you. I thought you'd like it, sweetheart.

>> One can hardly talk about Elizabeth Taylor without mentioning Richard Burton with whom she shared the screen and a torried love affair starting in the 1963 production of Cleopatra.

>> I will never betray you.

>> Their love was so stormy that they married and divorced twice. Their public amour was the subject of headlines, books, TV shows, and is now firmly embedded in Hollywood mythology. Taylor maintained her longevity in the public eye after those golden years by inviting us into her jewelry box, to sniff her perfume, to read her love letters and to share in the causes that matter to her, especially AIDS and AIDS research. She maintained her glamor even in court defending her friend, Michael Jackson, even in a wheelchair as her health declined. And she never apologized for living life to the hilt breaking hearts on screen and off.

>> I don't really know how to express my gratitude for this and for everything. I guess all I can do is thank you. Thank you with all my heart.
