Commander Yuli Momture leads his men unarmed towards the armed troops who have taken up position at their base in Belva, outside Sevastopol. As they approach the intruders, warning shots ring out. Still, they move forward. [ FOREIGN ] Stop or I'll be forced to shoot at your legs, I will shoot, this man shouts in Russian. [ FOREIGN ] You're standing there with machine guns responds Commander Mumchoor, and we're standing here without weapons. Cool heads prevailed, bloodshed was averted this time. But this encounter shows just how close this standoff is to becoming something much, much worse. Afterwards, back in the part of the base still fully under Ukrainian control, Commander Momture seemed relieved.

So far they've refused and are trying to convince the Russians to relent. 26 year old lieutenant Nikolai says he's just a soldier following orders. The. This is a political war and it's not acceptable he tells me. We're all brothers. A lot of us have relatives. Friends in Russia. [ FOREIGN ] Was perhaps those lingering ties that prevented violent confrontation here, the Ukrainians and Russians here are talking. But until the standoff is resolved, the dialogue is highly charged
