## Transcript

Hi, this is Matt Peckham with Time and I'm playing a game called Super Hot. It's a first person shooter. I think more accurately a puzzle game, and I say that because it's really more, it's less They shooting, and the ballistics, those exist. It's about getting guns and trying to take out enemies. But the entire premise for the game is that time in the game, only moves when you do. And you'll notice I'm moving very slowly here, and that is entirely intentional The speed at which I move dictates the speed at which my enemies move and so I need to be very careful. I'm the guy with the sword and I've got three guys here, two it looks like with hand guns and one with a rifle.

So, let's take this fellow. He's gonna, I'm close to him, I should be dead, he's a bad shot. But you know he fired at me, I'm gonna throw my sword Gonna rip the weapon from his hand and then fire at the first guy he's gonna dodge out of the way. But I think the guy behind him shot him I believe here. And then this guy I'm also gonna follow at. Once I reload [ NOISE ] Okay so I took him out. And you can see everything even the shrapnel is moving at the speed that I dictate so there's guys that are appeared at the top here. I'm gonna throw my hand in cause that's not gonna do me well I'm gonna run out of ammo as well you have very limited ammo And then I see a guy with a sword there, I can forget about him, because he is gonna take a while for him to get down to me, and I am gonna try to take out these guys here.

So, see what I'm doing, I can fire. [ NOISE ] And I don't know, okay I did, yep, there we go, so We got at least one of them, and now I can do that again, and I'm able to see what's coming at me while, you know, very judiciously dictating where my bullets are going to go. Now my magazine is empty, so I can throw my weapon at him, and that stuns him. I can grab the sword. [ SOUND ] I can take him out and I have to be very careful here. I was very lucky there. In most levels, when you turn your back [ LAUGH ] like that, you go down because the game likes to compensate for the fact that you are so super- powered relative to your enemies by just spawning The men randomly.

[ NOISE ] You have to be very careful here because when you get this close it's very easy to [ NOISE ] take a bullet. And probably we'll see if I survive here or not. Looks like I'm gonna do it. Super. Super Hot. I'm playing another level here in Super Hot. You can see the shadows of enemies there. I've got sort of a useless looking phone in my hand that serves as a handy, blunt weapon. Blunt object. Hits that guy, I grab his gun, I fire, take him out, duck behind the wall, wait for Gonna fire at the assailant. Take him out, move around the corner, wait for that guy to knock the glass out, fire.

Take him out. Now I have one bullet left I believe in this hand gun. So I know that there's somebody waiting for me around here. Take him out. And then this opens up, so this is kinda fun here. Throw the gun at that guy to stun him. Grab the shotgun. Take out this guy. Dodge the bullet. Wait for my shotgun to reload. Fire. Take him out. Continue to avoid Further enemy fire, I think I got two guys there cuz he went down and. This guy is firing multiple bullets at once so just pop once. [ NOISE ] That sort of beast swarm of bullets should take care of him. I think I might be out of bullets here.

So more coming, throw the shot gun. [ NOISE ] Grab this semi- automatic rifle. Fire off a couple of bullets. Nope, I did not get hit. And I'm still gonna miss him. So you can see there's still a shooter, you know, ballistic gaming element here. It's just informed by the civility to do so much dodging and weaving between these. I think in the review I called these the tracer lines in the Spiderman comics. If you've ever read those you see Spiderman doing these crazy acrobatic maneuvers. Dodging between bullets and it's, okay, I'm out of bullets. I better pay attention here. I'm gonna throw the rifle, stun him, grab the shotgun, fire my bee swarm of bullets.

Stun him, because he's gonna to me before I have a chance to load. Grab the handgun, shot to the head. Okay, let's see. Are you gonna fire before I get a chance to? No, I've got you. And finally, throw the gun, a couple of punches. I don't think actually, yep, there we go. And that is another level in Super Hot. Hot, Super Hot. Super Hot.
