A man with a hammer attacked a police officer in France. It happened near the Notre Dame Cathedral, Tuesday. After being attacked, the officer shot and injured the attacker, who according to a French official, said, quote, This is for Syria. Officials say they believe the attacker was an Algerian student. Officials say the man went after the officer who was patrolling in front of the world famous cathedral. Police are urging people to stay away from the area. The attacker was taken to a hospital, Paris has been under high security after several attacks targeting police officers. Back in April, another attacker shot at a police van on the Champs Elysees.

Killing one person and severely injuring two others, that attacker was shot and killed by police
