## Transcript

One photographer says he aimed to shed light on the situation of women in India with a fashion photo shoot that some say trivializes several high profile rape cases in the country. The controversy drew immediate headlines and comparisons to an infamous Delhi gang rape that killed a 23 year old student aboard a bus. The photographer's decision to also do the photo shoot on the bus let many to criticize him for making light of the real- life rape. The student's death in 2012 infuriated locals. I hope that people are scared before touching a daughter, before touching any man's daughter. I don't want my parents to be scared if I'm going out in the night.

BuzzFeed was able to speak to the photographer about the series he called " The Wrong Turn ." For his part, he says the photos are not based on the event. Instead, he says, he wanted to communicate a message that it doesn't matter who the girl is. It doesn't depend on which class she belonged in, it can happen to anyone. But several outlets captured local reactions to the shoot with several individuals tweeting the series was in poor taste regardless of what the photographer was trying to portray. One Bollywood actress tweeted, rape is not an inspiration for a fashion shoot. This comes at a time when reported rapes in India continue to climb.

In 2013, there were more than 30, 000 reported rapes in the country. Nearly 9, 000 more than those reported in 2012. The photographer has since removed the photos from his portfolio site
