A class action lawsuit file in California says the burrito joint isn't actually GMO- free Because the restaurant serves meat and dairy products that come from animals fed GMO's, and it sells soft drinks made with GMO's. GMO's, or Genetically Modified Organisms, are typically crops like corn or soybeans that have been modified to be resistant to disease or certain chemicals. There is some debate over their health effects. Anti GMO advocacy groups argue products that contain GMOs should be labeled. And site some studies suggesting they could cause allergies and damage the immune system. But they're a lot of scientists who don't believe they are harmful to humans. Last April, Chipotle declared itself the first restaurant to cook only with non- GMO ingredients. And for it's part, Chipotle has a warning on its website that its beverages and meat and dairy products could be made from animals that were fed GMOs.
