>> Far in the north of Greenland, where the summer sun never sets, a team of scientists search for clues about ancient climate.

>> It's always light. So, when you first get here, it's-- it may be a little hard to sleep. So, it takes a couple of nights to get used to it. We sleep mostly in those red structures that you see behind me. They're called weather ports.

>> The living arrangements might be less than luxurious, but the food is worth writing home about.

>> The food here is amazing. That's one of the really wonderful parts of cap. I can honestly say that I eat better here than I do at home.

>> While the North Greenland Eemian Ice Drilling project, or NEEM, may look like a frontier outpost on the surface, scientists are engaged in very sophisticated research underground. Thirty feet below the surface, in this huge trench carved from the snow, is where this ice core research begins.

>> They're getting older and older in every meter we're melting.

>> We're getting back to the future.

>> The ice is literally a climate history book that might eventually reach back more than a million years.

>> It's very hard to put into words, but it's really quite as the sense of excitement and wonder and mystery. It's really like pulling back the veil. And it's a very exciting feeling.
