Especially if they have a few less gray hairs than I do. But the reality is Even under the worst of circumstances, even if they do absolutely nothing to fix it, there's gonna be enough money coming in to pay more than three quarters of the promised benefits. And of course I think we all like to think that eventually they will get around to doing something. The fixes are not difficult economically difficult. They may be politically difficult. But this is not an insoluble problem, social security will be there for you. Wether it be in exactly the same form, or wether the cost of living adjustments will be exactly the same form. Wether the adjustments to your earlier wages are exactly the same, wether the retirement age will be exactly the same, no one can say for sure. The thing is that The question that people should be asking themselves is not whether Social Security is going to be there, but how much of their retirement income is going to depend on Social Security. If they're looking for Social Security for more than 20 % of that money then they're going to be in trouble. And I would say that you shouldn't count on social security as being the cornerstone of your retirement plan. You should look at social security as perhaps a supplemental benefit that will pay for the Discretionary expenses and retirement.
