[ MUSIC ] When is the right time to ask for a vacation? Well, if you've just accepted a job, it's great to negotiate that right up front into your contract, take a month off before you start. You've probably spent a lot of time looking for a job, so now is the time to take time off, and that just helps you manage your energy, so you can come really fresh to your new. New job. Can you explain that to the new employer? How do you couch your needs and their needs? So I wrote The Happiness Track precisely so that managers and leaders can see the benefits of their employees actually taking time to take care of themselves.

Because research shows that this is the best way you're gonna have high- performing employees And the leaders themselves actually need to set the tone. So it's very important if you're going to build an employee culture of wellbeing that the leader fundamentally adopts those principles themselves. People don't take all the vacation that's offered to them. I think it feels sometimes like you just have so much to do you can't take that time. Is there a big error in the united states gives less vacation days than any other nation and yet we take less of our limited vacation time than any other country.

and even when we do take vacation the majority of people check in and do some work. so what we're seeing here is that vacation is not honored, but by taking time off you're actually going to be Have a more fresh perspective on your work when you come back. You're probably gonna be more engaged, more creative, and come back with a lot more energy. So taking a vacation is a really good idea, even if you just want to be more succesful. Sounds great to me.
