This is the $ 35 device from Google. You plug it in at the back of your TV and you can use your phone or tablet to tell this little dude that to load up certain NetFlix or YouTube videos or videos from the Google Play Store or you can use the Google Chrome Web Browser on your computer to replicate the open tab in your browser on your TV using this little device. Let's get started. It is so hot. It's humid and there's lights. You are trading your talent poorly, talent meaning me. Oh, not talent, just a guy. Okay. One of these days I'm gonna be a talent though. You may have never seen anything like this because this is-- what I'm about to do is very advanced. But this basically what the back of a TV looks like and we're looking for the HDMI input right here. You'll notice an HDMI plug on the Chromecast. Stand back everybody, this could be dangerous, and we're good to go. Not quite. You need to provide power to the Chromecast. It comes with a wall plug, well I have micro USB. Again, the advance technology, you might wanna hire a technician to come over and hook this up. It should be about 200 bucks, but that's why guys like me get paid what they do to write about technology. We do advanced thing like this. So Chromecast is all hooked up. Quick [ unk ] on later, ready to cast. Before you get to this screen, you're gonna need to do an initial bit of setup using a Windows PC, a Mac computer or a Google Chromebook pixel or you can use an Android device. You cannot set up yet from an Apple portable device but Google says they're working on an app for that. I'm gonna get my face of it right now. So once you've got everything loaded up. You can go into your NetFlix app on your phone for instance and hit play. And you'll notice down here there's a little, looks like a little icon. That's a new icon. That's the Chromecast icon. So, you're playing on your iPhone. We wanna switch to Chromecast and then once the video starts playing on the TV, your iPhone becomes a glorified remote control controlling the volume and the positioning of the video and all that good stuff. >> She was scared. >> You know what, call the cops. >> Well, the cooler feature of Chromecast, let say, someone with an iPhone is controlling what videos playing on the TV and this person with iPhone leaves the house, someone with an Android device or other phone can pick up where this person left off. So let see you're gonna play with your friend. One Direction is better. No, Taylor Swift is better. Are you serious? Have you ever been to a Taylor Swift concert? Yeah, I went to Taylor Swift and One Direction. Are you kidding? You're a mess. They won't even let you into the concert. Are you serious? You're a menace of society. Look how old you are. You're creepy. All right, I'm out of here. And then they leave. You can use your Android phone to pick up where that person left off. You can take control of playing video. Now, if you're using Google's Chrome web browser, so you have a tab open here to the time tech page and we're going to use the cast plug- in to cast this tab to my Chromecast device and nice. It gets loaded up. [ unk ]. Let's say you have a video. This one is from Vimeo. So that's the Google Chromecast. It' not perfect. A little bit of trouble getting that setup with my network at first but it didn't take too long to figure it out and the feature where you can throw your Chrome web browser tab into your TV. The video quality isn't great. It's a little bit pixilated at times. But for 35 bucks, this is not a bad way at all to turn your otherwise, regular TV into a smart TV of sort. It's available at the Google Play Store and various retailers. Today, we're gonna be looking at the Chrome-- I should just stop doing videos. What's the point? I can't-- I'm not talent. I can't keep a hold of them, too susceptible to humidity. I'm done.
