Somewhere in Northridge, California, sits [300 pounds](https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-confetti-drop-7ada39848898523ba548f440b0caa5e1) of red, silver, and navy confetti. Drake Maye and Co. never saw a piece of it. Seahawks-colored slips of paper poured down as the losers made a beeline for the Levi's Stadium locker room, away from the cameras that caught them anyway—an image of defeat so lasting that Jalen Hurts once made his own Super Bowl rain parade his [phone lock screen](https://x.com/nflnetwork/status/1888608796991205397?ref%5Fsrc=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1888608796991205397%7Ctwgr%5E5ef572cb15e5ae670e479f1935e2b176fbe4a759%7Ctwcon%5Es1%5F&ref%5Furl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.si.com%2Fnfl%2Fjalen-hurts-uses-prior-super-bowl-loss-as-phone-wallpaper), two years before the colors finally fell his way.

For just the second time in league history, the NFL season will open with a Super Bowl rematch: the New England Patriots at the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday night.

The Patriots will watch the Seahawks raise the banner that was almost theirs—a permanent reminder of a season neither team was supposed to have. Seattle entered last season with roughly a 1.6% implied probability to win the [Super Bowl](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2025/preseason%5Fodds.htm). New England was an even bigger long shot at 1.2%. Oddsmakers priced 18 teams ahead of both. Even as the market made in-season adjustments in favor of the teams that kept exceeding expectations, it never quite caught up: the Seahawks finished with the NFL's best [against-the-spread record](https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/trends/ats%5Ftrends/?range=yearly%5F2025). The Patriots had the third-best.

Now the market is pricing a Seahawks team that paid a tax on its winnings against a Patriots team that addressed what February exposed.

## Patriots at Seahawks Odds

Below are the [Patriots vs. Seahawks odds for Week 1](https://kalshi.com/markets/kxnflgame/professional-football-game/kxnflgame-26sep09nesea?op%5Fmarket%5Fticker=KXNFLRECYDS-26SEP09NESEA-SEAJSMITHNJIGBA11-100), per Kalshi.

The market undervalued Seattle last season. Now it's betting the Seahawks can survive the price of proving everyone wrong: a Super Bowl run that put a premium on the personnel behind it.

Offensive coordinator [Klint Kubiak](https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-zeroing-in-on-seahawks-oc-klint-kubiak-as-their-next-head-coach) schemed his way into the Las Vegas Raiders' head-coaching job, Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker landed a [three-year, $45 million deal](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7087231/2026/03/09/kenneth-walker-nfl-free-agent-2026/) with the Kansas City Chiefs, and safety Coby Bryant landed a [three-year, $40 million deal](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/48154394/sources-bears-sign-ex-seahawks-db-coby-bryant-3-year-deal) with the Chicago Bears. Despite those losses, the Seahawks return with the fifth-best defensive line and sixth-best secondary, per [Pro Football Focus](https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-secondary-rankings-2026). Sam Darnold's renaissance continues alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the NFL's reigning receiving-yards leader. Add Lumen Field—ranked by players as the [league's second-toughest venue](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/43210458/nfl-toughest-places-play-arrowhead-chiefs-bills-highmark)—and the market gives the Seahawks a 62% chance of winning the season opener as 3.5-point favorites. But that conviction runs into a Patriots team that paired Drake Maye with a 1,000-yard rebuttal to every question surrounding who, exactly, he is supposed to throw the ball to.

Maye threw for the fourth-most yards in the league last season despite lacking a true No. 1 receiver. None of New England's pass-catchers finished in the top 15 of receiving yards. The Patriots addressed that weakness by [trading for A.J. Brown](https://www.nfl.com/news/aj-brown-patriots-eagles-trade), who has topped 1,000 receiving yards in six of his seven seasons. It's a dream pairing for Brown, who saw fewer than nine targets in seven of 15 games last season in the Philadelphia Eagles' run-heavy offense—and was once caught [reading a book on the sidelines](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/43390922/aj-brown-says-book-sign-frustration-read), prompting speculation that it was a passive-aggressive jab at his target share. Brown, for his part, insisted he just [likes to read](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/43390922/aj-brown-says-book-sign-frustration-read). He can close that chapter with Maye as his signal-caller. Kalshi traders expect an immediate return on New England's investment: [Brown has an 18% chance to surpass 100 receiving yards](https://kalshi.com/markets/kxnflgame/professional-football-game/kxnflgame-26sep09nesea?op%5Fmarket%5Fticker=KXNFLRECYDS-26SEP09NESEA-SEAJSMITHNJIGBA11-100) on Wednesday night, the second-shortest odds behind only Smith-Njigba at 33%.

The Patriots cannot change which team raises the banner on Wednesday night. They can make sure Seattle's victory lap ends at kickoff. The Seahawks face the [sixth-toughest schedule](https://www.tankathon.com/nfl/remaining-schedule-strength) and are favored by 3.5 points or fewer in each of their first four [home games](https://www.4for4.com/betting/odds/lookahead/spread), a particularly unforgiving opening stretch in an [NFC West](https://time.com/partner-content/prediction-markets/the-nfc-s-divisions-dont-add-up/) that already leaves little margin for error. A Super Bowl rematch on its face. For the market, a chance to finally prove it knows what either team is worth.
