The ballot is open to every position, but the hardware rarely leaves the pocket: quarterbacks have won MVP in 13 consecutive seasons and 18 of the past 19\. The 2026 MVP odds board tells the same story: signal-callers occupy the top 23 spots. Even J.J. McCarthy—whose [campaign](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/49582977/new-minnesota-vikings-kyler-murray-jj-mccarthy-starter-qb1) currently relies on Kyler Murray missing the team bus—has shorter [MVP odds](https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/navigation/nfl?tab=awards) than some of the league's top skill players, including Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, and Justin Jefferson. Quarterbacks may have monopolized the award, but at least they've kept the race compelling. Last season, Matthew Stafford edged Drake Maye by one first-place vote in what was the [closest MVP race](https://www.nfl.com/news/matthew-stafford-rams-qb-most-valuable-player-2025?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com) since Peyton Manning and Steve McNair shared the honor in 2003\. The position was chalk. The finalists were not. Stafford entered the season with [+3500 MVP odds](https://www.covers.com/sportsoddshistory/nfl-awd-champs/), while Maye was buried at +5000\. Right now, the three favorites are deadlocked at the top of the board. The real edge belongs to anyone paying attention to the pricing discrepancy between prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks. Here's where the 2026 NFL MVP race stands entering the season. ## **2026 NFL MVP Odds** Below are the [2026 NFL MVP odds](https://kalshi.com/markets/kxnflmvp/ap-pro-football-regular-season-mvp/kxnflmvp-27), per Kalshi.  Kalshi has Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow tied at 10%. Sportsbooks see a clear frontrunner. [DraftKings](https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/football/nfl?category=awards&subcategory=mvp) lists Allen at +600 and [FanDuel](https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/navigation/nfl?tab=awards) at +650, putting his raw implied probability around 14%. Long-shot prices often vary in futures markets, even heavily traded ones. But a gap this large on the outright favorite is rare. If the books are more efficient, prediction-market traders are getting a meaningful discount on Allen. If Kalshi is more efficient, the books are charging a tax on the 2024 MVP. That disagreement stretches further down the field. Stafford and Caleb Williams are priced as equals on Kalshi at 7%, while FanDuel lists Stafford at +900 and Williams at +1500, implying 10% and 6.25% probabilities. Prediction markets are peer-to-peer exchanges driven by trader consensus. Sportsbooks set the odds and build in a house margin. So even in a futures market as active as this one, odds for the top candidates can vary across platforms. That lack of consensus is fitting in the dual-threat quarterback era. Eleven quarterbacks [rushed for 350-plus yards last season](https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/%5F/stat/rushing/season/2025/seasontype/2), deepening the pool of passers who can build a case on the ground. [Three of the past four MVPs](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/awards/ap-nfl-mvp-award.htm) made a meaningful impact with their feet: [Patrick Mahomes](https://time.com/6966732/patrick-mahomes-interview-time100-2024/) rushed for 358 yards and four touchdowns in 2022, Jackson rushed for 821 yards and five touchdowns in 2023, and Allen rushed for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2024\. That trend explains why quarterbacks with proven running upside—Williams, Maye, Justin Herbert—can sit ahead or alongside more accomplished pocket passers on the odds board. Stafford proved the old route still works, though. He ran for a single yard last season and let his arm handle the other 4,707\. He also threw 46 touchdown passes, 12 more than the next-closest player. This season, no contender is better equipped to win the Stafford way than Burrow. A [turf toe injury ](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/46264761/nfl-turf-toe-cincinnati-bengals-joe-burrow)limited Burrow to eight games last season, putting the league's least desirable three-peat in play: a third Comeback Player of the Year award. Burrow's [injury-interrupted career](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7450790/2026/07/17/bengals-mailbag-joe-burrow-training-camp/) has sent him to the podium for that trophy twice. But at 29, with arguably the league's best receiving duo in Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins at his disposal, Burrow's ceiling is higher than a comeback story. He's two years removed from leading the league with 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, and this year, the schedule is cooperating. The Cincinnati Bengals have the second-easiest [schedule](https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/nfl-strength-of-schedule/). If Burrow stays healthy against a forgiving slate of defenses, the passing numbers will take it from there.
