On Sunday, Argentina returns to defend its reign. Spain arrives to end it. The World Cup is a graveyard for underdogs and, true to [recent trends](https://time.com/partner-content/prediction-markets/the-world-cup-s-billion-dollar-belief-machine/), the bracket did not deliver a Cinderella story. Spain entered as a co-favorite to win the tournament, while Argentina carried the fifth-shortest odds. The chalk, more or less, held. But the contrast between these two teams is every bit as sharp as the odds. Spain has never trailed in this tournament. Argentina, meanwhile, has made a habit of comebacks, erasing a 2-0 deficit against Egypt and stunning England with a two-goal rally in the dying minutes of the semifinal. The tournament has delivered a final matchup as clean as Unai Simón's sheets, but the betting market has spent weeks caught in transition.
