The internet ran with it, plotting Curry's course from the back nine to Boston's backcourt. August is a dead-ball period on the NBA calendar. The league's reality-television season, complete with [blockbuster trades](https://time.com/partner-content/prediction-markets/giannis-traders-bit-on-the-boston-pump-fake/) and free-agency drama, aired its finale. Summer League wrapped, taking its armchair scouts and undrafted-free-agent believers with it. Once [LeBron James made his decision](https://time.com/partner-content/prediction-markets/lebron-james-signs-with-76ers-blindsiding-a-230-million-market/), fans and media were stranded without a storyline. A Curry-Tatum tee time would do. Never mind that they never actually golfed together. Here's how a same-course coincidence and a context-stripped Curry-to-Boston report helped drive more than $4 million in prediction-market trading. ## Stephen Curry Trade Rumors  On July 27, Sports Illustrated Celtics writer [John Karalis examined](https://www.si.com/nba/celtics/onsi/could-the-boston-celtics-pry-steph-curry-away-from-golden-state-warriors-01kyj8tkdjbr) whether Boston could acquire Curry. Karalis stressed that any Curry trade would "[be a bit of a shocking development](https://www.si.com/nba/celtics/onsi/could-the-boston-celtics-pry-steph-curry-away-from-golden-state-warriors-01kyj8tkdjbr)," then offered his own assumption that Celtics general manager Brad Stevens has "been on the phone with the Warriors brass to pitch a deal if they want one." The column proposed a possible trade package. It did not claim the Warriors and Celtics had held trade discussions. That same day, Boston's implied probability of landing Curry climbed from 1.7% to 7.1% on Kalshi. [Karalis later clarified](https://x.com/John%5FKaralis) that he had not reported that Boston made an offer to Golden State. The buzz eventually cooled, and the Celtics' implied probability dropped to 5.5%. On August 4, the rumor mill found a new catalyst: an [X post claiming Curry and Tatum were golfing together](https://x.com/IAmJamesStewart/status/2084713436647174281?s=42) in Massachusetts. Basketball accounts, including [Polymarket Hoops](https://x.com/PolymarketHoops/status/2084744972532863466?s=42), amplified the supposed sighting. By that night, Boston's probability had climbed to 9.7%. The alleged link-up on the links was missing one small detail: the linking up. [Curry was playing with former President Obama](https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/steph-curry-jayson-tatum-spotted-044657786.html). Tatum was on the same course but several groups ahead. Once that rumor was debunked, Boston's probability settled back to 6%, but the trading frenzy had already taken hold. The Stephen Curry next team market has eclipsed $4 million in trading volume, with more than $3 million traded in the last week alone. Curry remains one of the few modern one-jersey superstars. Nothing he or the Warriors have said suggests a split is coming.
