The addition Riley spent years engineering is finally real. If anything rivaled Antetokounmpo trade rumors for sheer inevitability, it was Riley himself. But on Monday morning, league insiders gave traders a different signal: the Antetokounmpo trade market on Kalshi ripped toward the wrong team, dragging millions of dollars in volume with it. By the time Charania hit send, that early-morning surge was nothing more than a pricey pump fake—and a reminder that the wisdom of the crowd is only as sharp as the whispers it's fed. ## Insider Smoke Became Market Fire For years, Antetokounmpo trade rumors lived in the harmless economy of mock trades and jersey photoshops—the NBA fan's response to a superstar who kept hinting he wanted out of Milwaukee. One week before the NBA's February 2026 trade deadline, Charania reported the Bucks star was "[ready for a new home](https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/2016546876267372738?lang=en)." The same fan impulse that once produced social media memes migrated to prediction markets, where Kalshi's Antetokounmpo trade market generated [more than $23 million](https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kalshi-controversy-fails-stop-giannis-185950534.html) in volume. ESPN's [Brian Windhorst later reported](https://x.com/UnderdogNBA/status/2069044639529587157?s=42) the Celtics were "all-in" on their trade efforts, even putting 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown on the table. In response to the reports, Boston's chances to acquire Antetokounmpo skyrocketed from a 17.9% to 50.1% implied probability, peaking at 58.1% by 9:50 p.m. ET. Two hours later, Antetokounmpo was South Beach bound.  ESPN's reporting was accurate: Antetokounmpo was traded to one of the named destinations before the NBA Draft, and the Celtics did [include Brown in an offer](https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/shams-charania-reveals-main-reason-061903409.html) to the Bucks. But the public overcorrected, chasing value in Boston's surging odds and pricing Miami out of a race it was always in. And as this exact saga has already proved, sources can be wrong—or right in ways that still lead traders to the wrong conclusion. Markets price confidence. On Monday, that confidence ran too far in Boston's direction.
