Take the points where you can get 'em. The Chicago Bears will not be renamed the "Indiana Bears"—but fans may still have to travel to the Hoosier State to watch them play.

Bears fans spent Wednesday night sweating a nightmare parlay: a [now-debunked report](https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/chicago-bears-analyst-ben-devine-203021051.html) claimed the franchise would make an Indiana stadium deal official Thursday, complete with an "Indiana Bears" rebrand. At [Thursday's annual address](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/49602517/bears-change-name-moved-indiana-mccaskey-says), chairman George McCaskey put the name-change rumors to rest while affirming the team's commitment to building a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana.

The Bears' stadium saga has dragged on for nearly five years, cycling from Arlington Heights, Illinois, to the Chicago lakefront, back to Arlington Heights, and now Hammond—without a shovel in the ground. After so many false starts, prediction-market traders remain wary of jumping offside, though confidence in a move to Indiana has climbed considerably over the past week.

Here are the latest updates on the Chicago Bears' stadium search and a look at how the market is pricing a move across the state line.

## **Bears Stadium Relocation Odds**

Below are the [odds on where the Chicago Bears will relocate their home stadium](https://kalshi.com/markets/kxrelocationchi/chicago-football-relocation/kxrelocationchi-28?op%5Fmarket%5Fticker=KXRELOCATIONCHI-28-IND), per Kalshi. The market will resolve based on whether the Bears relocate or officially announce a relocation before the start of the 2028 NFL season.

The Bears' push to leave Soldier Field boils down to a brutal reality: nostalgia doesn't pay the bills. The oldest stadium in the NFL opened in 1924 and cost [$13 million](https://www.soldierfield.com/stadium-info/about) to build. Its name honors U.S. soldiers from World War I, and it remains one of just three NFL venues—along with Lambeau Field and [Arrowhead Stadium](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/49539711/chiefs-drop-geha-field-return-simply-arrowhead-stadium)—without a corporate sponsor in its name. And as last season's playoffs reminded us, Soldier Field still knows how to stage a snow game:

The conditions that give Soldier Field its charm also put a hard ceiling on the Bears' revenue. With no dome or retractable roof, the open-air stadium is effectively frozen out of [hosting the Super Bowl](https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/breaking-news/article/bears-president-kevin-warren-outlines-plan-to-host-super-bowl-in-new-suburban-stadium-as-soon-as-2031-224759879.html). Eighteen of the NFL's 30 stadiums opened in 2000 or later, with the average seating capacity now around 70,000\. But the Bears are trapped in the [league's smallest venue](https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/nfl-largest-stadiums/) with a capacity of just 61,500—roughly 21,000 fewer seats than MetLife Stadium—leaving the franchise with fewer tickets to sell at home games. The Bears are seeking a [world-class, fixed-roof stadium that would require no funding from Illinois](https://www.chicagobears.com/news/open-letter-regarding-arlington-heights-stadium-from-president-ceo-kevin-warren) for its construction—and maybe some help from its neighbor.

In February 2023, the [Bears purchased a 326-acre property in Arlington Heights](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/35667384/bears-purchase-326-acre-arlington-park-property-official), while cautioning that "finalizing the purchase does not guarantee the land will be developed, but it is an important next step in our ongoing evaluation of the opportunity." In April 2026, [the Illinois House advanced a "megaprojects" bill](https://abc7chicago.com/post/chicago-bears-stadium-news-illinois-lawmakers-expected-vote-wednesday-bill/18940218/) aimed at giving the team long-term property tax certainty. The team [welcomed the progress](https://abc7chicago.com/post/chicago-bears-stadium-news-illinois-lawmakers-expected-vote-wednesday-bill/18940218/) but warned that further changes were still needed to make Arlington Heights feasible. Kalshi traders were optimistic, pushing the implied probability of a new venue in Illinois to roughly 80% that day.

Then, on June 5, the [Bears announced](https://www.chicagobears.com/news/statement-from-chicago-bears-chairman-george-h-mccaskey-and-president-ceo-kevin-warren) that their board had voted to advance a stadium development project in Hammond, with the site to be selected at a later date. Indiana's chances of winning the relocation battle jumped to 64% on Kalshi. But as the summer wore on with no concrete updates, the implied probability fell as low as 35%, suggesting traders had grown skeptical that the border-crossing threat was anything more than a leverage play.

Thursday's update offered no final site or timeline, only that Hammond remains the "[focus](https://wgntv.com/sports/bears-president-and-ceo-kevin-warren-says-hammond-indiana-is-teams-sole-focus-for-new-stadium-project/)." That reaffirmation, paired with McCaskey's description of communication with Illinois legislators as "[minimal](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/%5F/id/49602517/bears-change-name-moved-indiana-mccaskey-says)," was enough to push Indiana's probability to 60%. Indiana has the ball and a one-score lead. Illinois is running out of clock.
