Despite being one of the largest banks in the U.S., Wells Fargo offers only seven consumer credit cards — much fewer than some of its fellow big bank competitors.

You won’t find an annual fee on any Wells Fargo consumer credit card and nearly all offer 0% introductory interest rates. Wells Fargo cards all offer modest benefits at a low cost and are best for people looking for low maintenance card usage, even if it’s at the cost of top-tier benefits you might find with other issuers.

Here are NextAdvisor’s picks for the best Wells Fargo credit cards:

Before You Start

Before you open a new credit card, make sure you’ve established healthy credit habits, like paying off your balance on time and in full every month. Any new credit card can lead to high interest debt if you’re not careful, so pay off any existing high interest debt before applying and only charge what you can afford to pay down each month.

How Wells Fargo Rewards Work

Wells Fargo’s rewards cards earn either general cash back or points toward the issuer’s rewards program, called Go Far Rewards. The program lets you redeem points from qualifying rewards cards, like the Wells Fargo Visa Signature Card, for cash redemptions, online auctions, travel, merchandise, or gift cards. You can also share your rewards with other people, or use them to donate to charity.

Keep track of and redeem your Go Far Rewards via your online Wells Fargo portal.

Maximizing Wells Fargo Rewards

To maximize your Go Far Rewards, make sure you swipe your credit card in qualifying points-earning categories. If your card offers an introductory bonus, make sure you meet the specified amount within the time frame to nab that reward.

Unlike some other issuer rewards programs, you can’t always guarantee boosted points value when you choose travel redemptions. But if you have the Wells Fargo Visa Signature Card, you can maximize your points by choosing to redeem them for airfare through Go Far Rewards for 50% higher value.

And always pay your statement balance in full and on time — interest charges you incur on a revolving balance can quickly outpace any rewards value.

What are the Best Wells Fargo Credit Card Benefits?

One of the biggest perks of Wells Fargo cards is the lack of an annual fee. However, this also means you’ll find fewer benefits and rewards than many competitors might offer.

Though individual cards vary, many Wells Fargo cards offer some travel and purchase benefits, such as auto rental and travel insurance, or extended warranty and purchase protections. Every card from Wells Fargo also offers cellphone protection (up to $600 in coverage after a $25 deductible) when you pay your phone bill with the card. Read your cardholder agreement to learn about the specific protections your card offers.

Finally, Wells Fargo cards make solid options for introductory 0% interest offers. Nearly all Wells Fargo cards offer 0% interest on new purchases and/or qualifying balance transfers for 12, 15, or 18 months after account opening.

Methodology

We evaluate each of Wells Fargo’s credit card offerings to determine those with the most value for a broad range of credit card users, whether they’re looking for cash back and rewards or an intro APR for qualifying balance transfers or purchases. Details we consider include rewards, intro bonus, short-term and ongoing value, fees, and 0% interest terms. Wells Fargo’s limited credit card portfolio results in a smaller list than other, larger issuers.
