Bilt World Elite Mastercard Credit Card Full Review

Card Type

The Bilt World Elite Mastercard is a dynamic travel credit card that lets you earn rewards on your monthly rent payments, along with other bonus categories.

Annual Fee

There is no annual fee for the Bilt World Elite Mastercard.

Welcome Offer

The Bilt World Elite Mastercard does not have any welcome offer or introductory APR offer, which is a drawback compared to many other travel credit cards.

Rewards

You’ll earn 3X points on dining, 2X points on travel, 1X points on rent (on up to $50,000 per year) and 1X points on other purchases with no transaction fees. To qualify for rewards, you must complete a minimum of five transactions each billing period.

When you’re ready to redeem, you’ll have a few options for how you use your points. You can transfer your points 1:1 to Bilt’s travel partners; redeem them toward a future rent payment; toward select fitness classes; or art, apparel, and more throught the Bilt Collection.

Fees

This card comes with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees. The ongoing APR is a variable 16.49% – 24.49%.

Up to a 5% (minimum $5) balance transfer fee can apply, but this card is not a great choice for balance transfers since it has no intro APR offer. You may also incur a late fee of up to $40 if you pay your credit card bill beyond its due date.

Other Benefits

The Bilt World Elite Mastercard comes with a few perks. You’ll get a $5 Lyft credit for every three rides taken within a calendar month and a three-month DashPass membership and $5 off the first two orders each month.

For frequent travelers, there are also travel protections which include trip cancellation and interruption insurance, trip delay reimbursement, primary auto rental coverage, and cell phone protection coverage.

Benefits of Bilt World Elite Mastercard

If your monthly rent is already one of your largest monthly expenses, the Bilt World Elite Mastercard offers a unique rewards opportunity. If your landlord or property manager is a member of the Bilt Rewards Alliance, you can pay through the Bilt app. But even if you don’t rent with a Bilt Alliance member, you can use your Bilt Mastercard to pay through the app and Bilt will mail your landlord a check, also for no added fees. Either way, this card lets you earn 1X points on up to $50,000 in rent spending per year.

Drawbacks of Bilt World Elite Mastercard

The Bilt World Elite Mastercard is pretty unique considering it lets you earn rewards on rent without any added fees. However, its rewards and benefits aren’t as robust as many other travel credit cards and rewards programs. This card has no welcome offer, which puts it at a big disadvantage when you compare it to other flexible travel credit cards that offer bonuses worth $500 or more within the first few months. Plus, it lacks a straightforward redemption option like statement credits or cash back.

And you’ll need to make sure you use your card for more than just rent each month: if you make fewer than five transactions in a single billing period, you won’t earn any rewards on your purchases during that billing cycle.

Also consider the risks of paying rent with a credit card before you apply. If you don’t have enough cash to pay the rent cost in full when your statement is due, you could quickly take on high interest debt and lose any savings this card’s rewards offer.

How to Use Bilt World Elite Mastercard Credit Card

The best thing you can do to maximize this card is use it for your rent payments each month. Check the Bilt App to determine whether you can pay your landlord directly, or if you’ll need to pay through the app with your card, and have a check sent to your landlord each month. You’ll earn 1X point for each dollar you spend up to $50,000 per year (about $4,166 per month).

However, to avoid the risks of paying your rent with a credit card, it can be smart to keep enough cash to cover a month or two of rent, to ensure you don’t fall behind on payments and rack up high-interest on your rent costs.

This card also offers 3X points on dining and 2X points on travel, and can make a good choice for those purchases, too. Especially if you don’t have another travel card, booking travel with this card can help you earn points and benefit from travel protections.

And you plan to use the Bilt Mastercard card to earn rewards, you’ll want to make sure you make at least five purchases every billing cycle.

When you’re ready, you can redeem your rewards for rent payments, group fitness classes, and more. Bilt also partners with an array of travel programs that let you transfer at a 1:1 ratio, including some that can be difficult to access through other programs. Bilt partners include Aeroplan, the American AAdvantage program, Emirates, United MileagePlus, World of Hyatt and more.

Is the Bilt World Elite Mastercard Credit Card Right for You?

Editorial Independence

As with all of our credit card reviews, our analysis is not influenced by any partnerships or advertising relationships.

If rent is one of your largest monthly expenses, the Bilt Mastercard offers a unique way to benefit from the cost. It’s also a good option for travelers, thanks to its travel rewards, transfer partner options, and travel protections.

However, there are other travel cards that may have more robust travel programs and additional travel benefits, or cash back cards that offer savings on common monthly expenses with more straightforward cash back or statement credit redemptions that you could choose to put toward rent on your own. The Bilt card could even be a good addition to the cards you already have in your wallet if you’re just interested in rent rewards.

Before you apply, make sure to compare all the options you may qualify for, and consider pairing up a few cards to get all the benefits you want the most.
