Whether you could use a little retail therapy this week, are trying to get a head start on your holiday shopping purchases, or have some big purchases to make, today is a good day to do just that.

Thursday and Friday are National Cash Back Day, meaning you can get a start on shopping while racking up significant savings on some of the hottest products of the season. We’ll show you how.

Cash Back Portals

In honor of National Cash Back Day (technically two days — November 5 and 6), you can score up to 20% cash back at some of your favorite retailers.

First, sign up for cashback accounts with popular sites such as Rakuten and RetailMeNot, which is an easy way to save money on online purchases. Once you sign up for an account, all you have to do is install the browser plug-in or download the app, or visit the cashback site that will then redirect you to your desired retailer. The cash back will be sent to you via check or PayPal, once every quarter.

Now here’s where things get fun on National Cash Back Day: Retailers such as Rebecca Minkoff, Adidas and Overstock are offering up to 20% cash back via RetailMeNot. On Rakuten, we’re seeing 15% cash back at Glossier, Verishop and Skinstore, as well as 10% cash back at Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Intermix, and many more.

Most stores usually just offer between 1% to 5% cash back via portals like Rakuten and RetailMeNot.

Credit Card Offers

Your credit card might be able to help you unlock even more potential savings.

There are several targeted offers from American Express available; the way to find one, if you have an American Express card, is to check your account. We just spotted one for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at makeup and skincare brand Glossier, as well as $50 off $250 or more at Neiman Marcus. Combine that with the extra cash back you can get from the portals we mentioned above, and you can rack up solid savings on everything you may need — or want.

Chase cardmembers also have access to some retail deals. For instance, I’m targeted for one on my Chase Freedom Flex℠ card for 10% cash back at Gap. The retailer is currently offering 15% cashback via RetailMeNot, which combined with the Chase offer, can save a good amount of cash.

Apple AirPods Deal

While it’s separate from National Cash Back Day, we also spotted a great deal on Apple AirPods that we’d be remiss not to include: They’re only $99 on Amazon right now, down from $159. And we have a trick up our sleeve to help you save even more.

We recommend saving your credit card points and airline miles to use them on travel, since you’ll always get more value out of them that way — with one exception. You can take advantage of an ongoing, targeted promotion where you can save $15 on a purchase of $60 or more using just one Chase Ultimate Rewards point. This can knock down the AirPods price from $99 to only $84 (plus tax).

Bottom Line

The holidays are almost here, and many may want to buy presents while keeping an eye on your budgets, something that’s especially important while economic uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic continues.

With a little bit of strategy and patience, you can set yourself up to save a good chunk of change from a handful of some of the most popular brands and retailers.
