Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card Full Review

Card Type

The Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card is a business credit card.

While Bank of America markets this card as a travel credit card for business owners, there are many ways to redeem your rewards outside of travel, making it a more flexible option than some other business travel cards.

Annual Fee

This card does not charge an annual fee.

Welcome Offer

You can earn 30,000 bonus points after spending at least $3,000 on purchases within 90 days of account opening. That’s worth $300 in redemptions, according to Bank of America.

Introductory Offer

The Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card offers 0% APR on new purchases for 9 billing cycles after account opening. After that, a regular variable APR of 12.24% to 22.24% will apply.

Rewards

With this card, you can earn a flat 1.5 points for each dollar you spend toward your business. When you use your card to book travel through the Bank of America Travel Center, you’ll double your standard rewards rate to 3 points per dollar spent.

When you’re ready to redeem your rewards, you can redeem for statement credits to offset previous travel or dining purchases, toward travel booked through the Bank of America Travel Center, or for cash back or gift cards.

Fees

While the Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card doesn’t charge an annual fee or foreign transaction fees, there are some other fees to be aware of.

A 4% balance transfer fee (minimum $10) and a 4% cash advance fee (minimum $10) can apply. However, this card’s 0% APR offer does not extend to balance transfers, so it’s not a great choice for debt payoff. And while there’s no penalty APR, a late payment fee of $19 to $49 may be applied to your account if you pay your bill after its due date.

Other Benefits

A major benefit of this card is the ability to boost your points via Bank of America’s Preferred Rewards program. If you’re a Bank of America Preferred Rewards for Business member, you can earn 25% to 75% more rewards for each dollar spent. To qualify, you’ll need to have an active Bank of America business checking account and meet the minimum balance requirement in an eligible Bank of America business deposit account or Merrill business investment account.

Pro Tip

Before you apply, make sure to compare this card to other business credit cards from Bank of America. For example, the Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards credit card offers 3% cash back in a category you choose.

A minimum average daily balance of $20,000 in an eligible Bank of America account will net 25% more rewards with the Gold Tier. If you want to earn 50% or 75% more rewards with this program, you need to maintain a minimum average daily balance of $50,000 (Platinum) or $100,000 (Platinum Honors) in your Bank of America accounts, respectively.

This card also comes with a few potentially valuable travel protections, including up to $1 million in travel accident insurance coverage, lost luggage reimbursement, trip cancellation coverage, and trip delay reimbursement.

Benefits of Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card

The biggest benefit of this card is its flexible rewards. Unlike some business travel cards that limit rewards to business spending only, you’ll earn rewards on every dollar you spend, and have plenty of options when it comes time to redeem.

Not only can you use your rewards for statement credits to offset travel and dining purchases, but you can redeem points for travel through the Bank of America Travel Center, for cash back, or for gift cards.

In addition to rewards, this card’s 0% APR offer on purchases for 9 billing cycles (12.24% to 22.24% variable APR thereafter) can be a great way to save on an upcoming business expense.

Drawbacks of Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Card

The Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Card may be a good pick for your wallet, but the fact you only earn bonus points (beyond the baseline 1.5x points) on travel booked through the Bank of America Travel Center can be a limitation for some. For example, if you want to book hotel stays directly in order to get elite benefits, or if you want to book travel on a different site in order to get a lower price, you’ll be limited to 1.5 points per dollar.

There are also few added benefits for frequent business travelers, like annual statement credits, lounge access, or other frequent flyer perks.

How to Use Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card

Start making the most of your Business Advantage Travel Rewards card by spending $3,000 on purchases within 90 days of opening your account — about $1,000 per month in business spending. With that, you’ll earn 30,000 bonus points, which are worth $300 in redemptions.

From there, use your card for all your regular business spending and bills to earn 1.5x points on each purchase. When you book business travel, remember you’ll get a boosted 3x points when you book through the Bank of America Travel Center. Still, it can pay to compare pricing with booking directly with brands or on other sites that may offer the same route at a discounted price. After all, it only makes sense to book travel through Bank of America if the price is the same or better than what you can find elsewhere.

If your business has enough cash flow, also consider becoming a Preferred Rewards for Business member to get even more rewards on your spending. When you qualify, you can boost your rewards by 25%, 50%, or 75%. That means for purchases that would otherwise qualify for 1.5x points, you could earn 1.875x points at Gold tier, 2.25x points at Platinum, and 2.625x points at Platinum Honors.

Is the Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card Right for You?

Editorial Independence

As with all of our credit card reviews, our analysis is not influenced by any partnerships or advertising relationships.

If you’re looking to earn flexible rewards without paying an annual fee, the Bank of America Business Advantage Travel Rewards Card is a good choice. You’ll earn a flat 1.5 points for each dollar you spend with this card, plus 3 points per dollar on travel purchases booked through Bank of America. And that’s in addition to the 30,000 bonus points you earn by spending $3,000 on purchases within 90 days of account opening.

Plus, if you qualify for Bank of America Preferred Rewards for Business, you can earn up to 2.62 points per dollar on regular spending and up to 5.25 points per dollar spent on travel booked through the Bank of America travel portal (if you qualify for the highest tier).

While this is a travel rewards card for business, it may not be the best option for very frequent business travelers. If you travel often for business, consider cards with higher rewards on travel spending not limited to the Bank of America portal, or additional benefits that can make your travel more convenient.

And if your business doesn’t require frequent travel, you may want to consider other cash back business credit cards that offer similar rewards on every purchase or higher returns in categories where you spend most, also for no annual fee.
