Let’s Never Talk About This Again by Sara Faith Alterman

Sara Faith Alterman’s memoir, in which she reckons with her father Ira’s pornographic career, is both hilarious and moving. As a child, Alterman discovered a series of X-rated books that her father had written. The revelation puzzled her, since her dad was prudish enough to fast-forward through kissing scenes in movies. But after Alterman grew up, her father began exhibiting Alzheimer’s symptoms, including bringing up previously taboo topics like his secret sex books. He even tries to enlist his daughter’s help in publishing a series of ironic how-to sex guides littered with dirty words. Alterman cycles through mortification, amusement and despair over her father’s state. The story will devastate any reader who has dealt with a parental illness, yet still manages to be one of the funniest books written this year.
