Simply being famous isn’t enough to get you on [Mel Robbins](https://time.com/collections/time100-creators-2025/7299152/mel-robbins/ "undefined")’ show. The 57-year-old host of The Mel Robbins Podcast has built her brand around sharing mindset shifts to help everyday people feel more in control of their lives—and she frequently turns down celebrities who want to come on as guests. “What do you have to make a nurse or a teacher or a firefighter’s life better? If you can’t do that, you’re not on my show,” she says. “It’s not about you. It’s about them.”

Over the past three years, Robbins has established herself as one of the most prominent voices in the self-help arena. Her most recent book, The Let Them Theory, became a viral phenomenon, selling more than 8 million copies. Virality in the millions is a regular Tuesday for Robbins and the more than 50 staffers at her production company, 143 Studios. The podcast, which Robbins started from [her closet floor](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JbfAr-BQjA&t=3s "undefined"), regularly gets 9 million to 11 million viewers and listeners a week.

Robbins has seemingly cracked the code for building a digital community by positioning herself as an everywoman, a gentle friend with your best interests in mind. Her global following of over 30 million across [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/melrobbins/ "undefined"), YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn serves as ample proof of Robbins’ insistence that hers is a show for “everyone”— from professors and grandmothers to first responders and high school students.

Still, she credits women as the demographic that has contributed the most to [her success](https://time.com/7095878/mel-robbins-interview-podcast-siriusxm-let-them/ "undefined"). “Some of the statistics in podcasting are depressing,” she says. “We are in a sea of manosphere, fake news, anger, hatred, and reactionary stuff.” Robbins wants to be a “lighthouse in a storm,” calling attention to stories that uplift.

And she wants women to learn from her example: she deliberately classifies herself as a businesswoman, rather than on-air talent. “If you view yourself as talent, you’re waiting for somebody else to pick you, to write the role, to cast you,” she says. “When you see yourself as the creator of your destiny—your emotional state, your next chapter, the creator of the changes that you wish to see in your family—you hold the power.
