Catalina, a vice president at the Center for Reproductive Rights overseeing efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean, knows historic victories are never won alone. They are built with alliances—in her case, with Surkuna, MTM (Mujeres Transformando el Mundo), OSAR (Observatorio en Salud Sexual y Reproductiva), Planned Parenthood Global, and others—braiding together feminist struggles for justice across borders. Together, the leaders of the Niñas, No Madres movement launched litigation on behalf of four girls from Ecuador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua who had been denied access to abortion care. In 2025, the U.N. Human Rights Committee issued landmark decisions in response to this litigation, setting global precedents for more than 170 countries under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to provide access to reproductive-­health services and to protect girls from forced motherhood.
