Starting from scratch in 2021, Ben—the CEO and my co-founder at de-­extinction startup Colossal Biosciences—has corralled unprecedented resources to realize his vision of restoring extinct species to our world. His dream team: an unlikely coalition of eco-­conservationists, state and Indigenous leaders, gene therapists, ethicists, vets, AI experts, and embryologists. From the start, Ben also baked in philanthropy via the Colossal Foundation, supporting restoration of ecosystems and endangered species (elephants, wolves, and rhinos), as well as animal welfare.
