And of course, we need regulations in combination with adequate policies and support schemes to make solutions accessible to the public. **What’s one sustainability effort you personally will try to adopt in the next year?** It's a continuous effort. I am mainly trying to stick with a low-meat diet, going on holiday without flying, eating local food, etc. Actually, we just moved to a new house so I'm going to try and make the garden as biodiversity-friendly as possible. **What is a climate solution that isn't getting the attention or funding it deserves?** I believe we could do more to help people use fewer products and resources, and opt for reuse and repair. You already see this happening slowly with more regulations on repairability. But at the same time we see things like cars getting much bigger (even electric ones), more stores selling cheap products with short lifespans, and a huge yearly global production of plastic. I believe curbing waste and overproduction in an acceptable way will help a great deal to limit climate impact. **What gives you hope about the future of the planet?** I remain hopeful because we're increasingly able to agree on the right measures globally, like the Paris accord, the deal to create Marine Protected Areas, and measures to phase out substances like ozone-depleting chemicals, sulphur and lead in fuels, and some pesticides. Individuals and organizations are also taking their own actions, but more is needed. I just hope we'll take these steps in time instead of being forced into them by major crises. **If you could stand up and talk to world leaders at the next COP, what would you say?** Regulation works. Set ambitious long-term goals on sustainability and give clarity to society and markets on what to expect. And most importantly, stick to it. Don't waive regulations in the face of adversity. People will always complain but society is very adaptive so long as the goals and rules are clear and consistent.
