This sixth-generation of Cannondale’s Synapse, designed for long-distance riding, is a big step forward. Outfitted with the company’s SmartSense system, it’s the first road bike that powers an integrated system of lights, radar, and wireless electronic shifting with a single battery “hidden in the downtube,” says Chief Marketing Officer Will Ockelton. That battery can also charge a phone, while the bike’s “StashPort” downtube storage compartment can hold a spare tube and tools. It’s “like a glove box for your bike,” Ockelton says. With everything tucked out of sight, the Synapse is even more aerodynamic than its predecessors.
