Courtesy Mirvie Each year around the world, [500,000 fetal deaths](https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.118.313276 "undefined") occur due to preeclampsia, a condition that [causes high blood pressure](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7311709/ "undefined"), endangering the mother as well. Previously, doctors had no way of identifying high-risk moms before they showed symptoms, but a [new test called Encompass](http://encompasstest.com/ "undefined") changes that. It’s the first diagnostic to use [cell-free RNA in blood](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-04249-w "undefined") to predict complications four months in advance. In a 10,000-patient [study](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-025-58157-y "undefined") published this spring, Encompass correctly identified 91% of women who would develop preterm preeclampsia. Launched in May, Encompass is now available through physician practices like [Advantia Health](https://www.mirvie.com/mirvie-media-releases/advantia-health-partners-with-mirvie-to-bring-predictive-and-preventive-care-to-maternal-health "undefined") and partnerships like [WIN](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/win-expands-maternal-health-program-and-introduces-early-preeclampsia-prediction-and-prevention-program-powered-by-mirvies-encompass-302518028.html "undefined").
