The nonprofit Every Cure’s MATRIX platform uses AI to figure out which already-approved drugs could help patients with completely different conditions—a process called drug repurposing. So far, the Every Cure team has identified or advanced 14 repurposed drugs that have become effective treatments for five rare diseases. “It’s so gratifying and rewarding when you see someone improve on a drug that the system wasn't advancing for them,” says co-founder and president Dr. David Fajgenbaum.
