Brooklyn, New York-based Cresilon created [Traumagel](https://cresilon.com/traumagel/ "undefined"), a plant-based gel physicians and first responders can apply to wounds through a prefilled syringe that forms a mechanical barrier to quickly stop even severe bleeding and enable clotting. Compared to “old-fashioned” methods like stuffing gauze into a wound, applying pressure, or using tourniquets, CEO and co-founder [Joe Landolina ](https://cresilon.com/our-story/ "undefined")says the gel “simplifies the process drastically.” The product received FDA clearance in 2024 and is now used in ambulances and hospitals nationwide.
