Irish healthcare tech company Akara is tackling this with its Al Sensor. “We think of it as being akin to an air traffic controller for the operating room,” says CEO Conor McGinn. The system installs directly in ORs, using AI-powered thermal sensing to track surgeries, send real-time alerts to staff, and generate precise scheduling data to reclaim lost time. Hospitals including the ambulatory surgery division of Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles have started using the system since its launch last year, with five more planned across the U.S. and Europe.
