Now Abridge, an AI-powered medical transcription platform that previously turned doctors’ conversations with patients into useful, billable notes, is lightening the load on nurses. “Administrative burden is really driving nurses away from the profession,” says Julia Chou, chief operating officer of Abridge. The new platform was designed to capture the nuances of nursing documentation, which involves entering structured data like a patient's vital signs, including their blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature, and was deployed at Mayo Clinic Arizona in early 2025.
