Two decades later, his London-based company has developed [XRlabs SIM](https://www.xrlabs.ai/xrlabs-sim "undefined"), which uses AI to transform ordinary medical scans into immersive 3D environments where surgeons can rehearse life-or-death procedures. Last year the technology enabled the successful separation of conjoined Pakistani twins Minal and Mirha, allowing doctors to explore the 11-month-olds’ shared anatomy in advance and practice the 14-hour surgery. The mixed-reality platform has been used by doctors in the U.K., U.S. and Turkey.
