And he also wants to see two old school friends, a hotshot Wall Street guy named Frank (Barry Pepper) and Jacob, a very shy, schleppy English teacher, played by the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman. _25_ _th_ _Hour_ is one of the greatest New York City movies ever made. Lee shot parts of it amid the ruins of the World Trade Center, and these sections of the film have a ghostly beauty: They’re an elegy woven right into the movie. But even beyond that, _25_ _th_ _Hour_ shows like no other Spike Lee movie how much he believes in the American Dream, not as some corny vision of having it all, but as a perfect union of very imperfect people.
