But this overlooked area is newly in the spotlight with the August opening of [SMK Thy](https://www.smkthy.dk/en/article/visit-smk-thy/ "undefined"). Presiding over the verdant banks of the Limfjord strait, it is the first permanent satellite of the [Statens Museum for Kunst](https://www.smk.dk/en/ "undefined") to open outside Copenhagen, part of a new strategy to broaden access to Denmark’s largest art collection. The museum transforms a former merchant’s farmhouse and grain silo into light-filled galleries built with reclaimed materials and pavilions that integrate into the surrounding terrain. Nature also shapes the programming: the 2026 exhibition “Seed Savers” spotlights Danish artists exploring local plant life. Beyond SMK Thy, Jutland is buzzing with new openings.
