Three CEOs discussed how their companies are using artificial intelligence in an effort to improve the consumer experience during a TIME100 Talk at the [TIME100](https://time.com/collection/100-most-influential-people/2026/) Summit in New York City on April 22\.

The panel featured [Jennifer Hyman](https://time.com/collections/100-most-influential-people-2019/5567849/jennifer-hyman/), CEO of e-commerce platform Rent the Runway; [Dan Neely](https://time.com/collections/time100-ai-2024/7012738/dan-neely/), the co-founder of Vermillio, an AI platform aimed at helping to protect—and monetize—customers’ likenesses and intellectual property; and [Glenn Fogel](https://time.com/7284698/booking-ceo-glenn-fogel-interview/), CEO of travel technology company Booking Holdings, the parent company of Booking.com. (Booking.com was a sponsor of the 2026 TIME100 Summit.) In the conversation, moderated by TIME Editor in Chief Sam Jacobs, all three spoke about how they’re approaching the same challenge: figuring out how to productively deploy AI in an unpredictable and ever-shifting technological environment.

To Fogel, the comparison of the pace of AI use from just a decade ago versus today is akin to that of a “tricycle to a high speed motorcycle.”

His company is seeking, he said, to create an “agent” that can concoct what he has described as a “connected trip” by handling all aspects of a booking, from start to finish, based on consumers’ data and preferences.

“You're dealing with one agent, just like it used to be,” Fogel said, referring to traditional, human travel agents. “Only with AI, it's so much better because with technology, the database is infinite. It knows everything, unlike the human, who only knew a few things … and it's able to do everything. As things change, it changes.”

Fogel admitted that, as much as the company can do to adapt to the rapidly changing AI landscape, consumers’ willingness to adopt new technologies remains a persistent unknown.

“Tying it all together will be so much better,” he said of the concept of an intelligent AI travel agent. “But it comes down to trust. Do you trust it will be right?”

For Hyman, who is seeking to streamline what she described as the “terrible freaking experience” of online shopping, the landscape of AI integration “feels like an entirely different world.”

“It is the most exciting period of innovation and creativity that I've ever had in my own company,” she said.

She observed that with the shifting technology has come changes to the workforce and “the blurring of the lines of seniority.”

“It used to be that people with more experience were better, were contributing more,” Hyman said. “That's not true with AI.” She said that many of her entry-level employees who are more "fluent in AI” and “open to experimentation” have been her most productive.

“It's a complete rethinking of what our jobs are in an organization, and what talent is actually going to be coveted and admired, and needed in the future,” she said.

Neely said that “authorized AI,” “AI with guardrails,” or “AI done the right way” can create trust between consumers and companies like Vermillio, which he described as creating pathways for artists' likeness to be used and enjoyed.

As an example, Neely recounted when his company partnered with David Gilmour, the lead guitarist for the renowned rock band Pink Floyd. Through the partnership with Vermillio, as well as Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings, Gilmour and ambient techno group The Orb released a [project](https://www.sonymusic.com/sonymusic/the-orb-and-david-gilmour-launch-metallic-spheres-in-colour-ai-global-remix-project-for-fans/) in 2023 that allowed fans to create remixes with the use of AI tools.

Neely also stressed the importance of protecting one’s likeness in the midst of the current era of rapidly developing technology, noting that generative AI has ushered in new circumstances that challenge copyright law precedent.

“Every single person in this room should care about their likeness,” he said. “When we think about copyrights, we often think about really big corporations. Likeness is the individual version of copyright that we're going to care about.”
