In 2018, just six months after women were legally permitted to drive in Saudi Arabia, the Emirati driver became the first woman of Arab descent to participate in a Formula E test in Ad Diriyah. Five years later, Al Qubaisi reached the F1 Academy, the female-only championship founded to boost the sport’s diversity. She was featured last year in the Netflix docuseries _F1: The Academy._ This year Al Qubaisi became the first woman to race in the Pro class of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and recorded back-to-back top-10 finishes at its Fuji event. **Correction, June 9** The original version of this story misstated where Al Qubaisi was born.
