Dr. Bronner's [dropped](https://info.drbronner.com/media-center/press-release/highest-scoring-b-corp-dr-bronners-announces-plans-to-drop-certification-citing-weak-standards-that-enable-greenwashing-and-purpose-washing-by-multinationals/ "undefined") its B Corp certification last year, arguing that the widely recognized seal used by some [10,000](https://www.bcorporation.net/en-us/certification/resources-and-faqs/ "undefined") companies had become yet another “greenwashing and purpose-washing” tool for multinational corporations. The family-owned soap brand was one of B Corp's highest-ever scorers—ranking first in the world in 2015 and 2022—so its announcement carried a lot of weight. A few months later, B Lab, the nonprofit behind the certification, [overhauled and strengthened its standards](https://www.bcorporation.net/en-us/news/press/b-lab-publishes-new-b-corp-standards-raising-the-bar-for-businesses-worldwide/ "undefined"), introducing third-party auditing requirements, among other new, more stringent rules that came into effect in January 2026\. “We are confident that the new standards are clear, ambitious, and truly capable of raising the bar for businesses worldwide,” Judy Rodrigues, director of standards of B Lab Global, [said](https://www.bcorporation.net/en-us/news/press/b-lab-publishes-new-b-corp-standards-raising-the-bar-for-businesses-worldwide/ "undefined") after the rollout. Still, the revisions weren’t enough to bring Dr. Bronner’s back to the B Corp club. Instead, the company co-founded [The Purpose Pledge](https://static1.squarespace.com/static/677d857b054e951e4f133a37/t/69b040ddaf2e1e4a92f2dbc8/1773158621112/3-10-26+Purpose+Pledge+March+10+Press+Release+-+UPDATED.pdf "undefined"), a business initiative focused on ethical governance, operations, and supply chains. The pledge is “built on 10 commitments to embed ethics and purpose at every level of a business's operations,” CEO David Bronner says.
