Virtual reality headsets are great for creating visual experiences that can blow your mind. The Skinetic Haptic Vest handles everything from the neck down. As in the world of the movie Ready Player One, the vest lets you “feel” rain drops in a storm, the breath of a monster creeping up from behind, or even the impact of bullets in battle. The wide range of sensations comes from 20 innovative “vibrotactile” voice-coil motors all around your torso. Gilles Meyer, CEO of Paris-based startup Actronika, says the adjustable (and washable) Bluetooth-enabled vest removes the “flat” tactile illusions of typical VR experiences and takes the technology “from black-and-white to full color.”
