S.A. Cosby is one of the best crime fiction writers working today, and it’s no surprise that his latest was an immediate best seller. Razorblade Tears follows Ike Randolph, a Black businessman and former convict who’s ready to give up his 15-year-long record of good behavior when his son and white son-in-law are brutally murdered on their anniversary, orphaning his granddaughter. Ike is joined by his son-in-law’s father, who also has a criminal record and a lot of contacts who might be helpful in solving—and avenging—the murder of their sons. The novel is fast-paced and grisly, but it also offers a nuanced portrayal of two men grappling with the prejudices that kept them from their sons.
