Many girls today still struggle to see their own potential to achieve similar feats. In fact, a recent global study commissioned by the LEGO Group found 70% of young women have trouble seeing themselves as builders who are capable of creating new things and 72% of parents feel girls lack visible role models. To help change this, the LEGO Group and TIME have joined forces to recognize extraordinary girls making their mark around the globe.  This dynamic collaboration marks the debut of TIME’s first-ever Girls of the Year list, made possible by the LEGO Group, which honors some of the world’s most remarkable young women from around the world and their equally impressive talents. Since 1958, the LEGO Group’s mission has been to inspire the builders of tomorrow. That mission is focused on ensuring children can build anything they like, playing in a way that will help them develop and realize their unique talent. This collaboration highlights what girls are capable of, and is sure to inspire others to dream big and build even bigger.  It is an extension of She Built That, a LEGO Group campaign launched in June 2025 that strives not only to empower girls to see themselves as builders, but reframe the very meaning of the word. A survey commissioned for the campaign found most parents and children view “build” in masculine terms and associate it with construction. She Built That​ aims to inspire society and girls globally to see themselves as awesome builders, creators, and innovators. To truly celebrate this, the LEGO Group partnered with TIME Studios to create a one-of-a-kind branded digital cover spotlighting the honorees. The cover springs to life in an animated video that reimagines the girls as LEGO® Minifigures. One by one, they’re highlighted in playful scenes that illustrate — and celebrate — their individual accomplishments. An adventurer, artist, author, advocate, athlete, and innovator are all recognized.  To help design each LEGO Minifigure, the honorees provided photos that best reflected who they are. The LEGO Group designers drew inspiration from the images to shape each character's appearance, carefully considering details like skin tone, hair, clothing, and even accessories to ensure they felt authentic to each girl’s unique identity. Beyond the LEGO Minifigures, the animation also spells out “Girls of the Year” with a special twist: each letter is an illustrated object built from LEGO® Bricks that hints at the girls’ achievements. For instance, the “R” in “Girls” is a solar-powered blanket that fits into a backpack, while the “S” becomes a winding vapor trail from an airplane.  And here’s something really cool: these LEGO-built letters weren’t just imaginative designs. They were tested virtually using a library of over 155,000 digital LEGO pieces to confirm they could actually be built in real life, much like the creations seen in The LEGO Movie.
