When Abrianna Morales was 15, she found herself navigating a morass of legal and emotional complexities in the aftermath of her sexual assault. She turned to the internet seeking support from others with similar experiences — but her search came up oddly empty.

"While I found resources for and about young people, I had a really hard time finding resources created by them," she said. "I was interested in stories like mine, but they simply weren’t there."

Surprised by this critical gap, Morales decided to take action. She founded the Sexual Assault Youth Support Network (SAYSN), a nonprofit that empowers young survivors, in 2017.

On top of being professionally fulfilling, this work creates exponential impact. "When we provide college students with education, training, mentorship and professional experience, we do more than just elevate the next generation of victim advocates. We elevate the next generation of leaders, social impact professionals and changemakers," she said.

## Expanding Morales’ Vision

In addition to helping individuals, Morales has long hoped to create broader, systemic change. "How can we meaningfully engage young advocates and survivors? How do we do that ethically? What resources can we mobilize? It's always been a dream of mine to lead that conversation," she said.

Thanks to The Allstate Foundation, that dream is now becoming a reality. Recently, the Foundation awarded Morales a $25,000 grant to fund the first-ever national summit on youth engagement in victim services. The initiative aims to unite advocates, students and youth-serving organizations to develop strategies for cultivating the next generation of leaders. It's a groundbreaking opportunity to strategically shape the future of the advocacy work that's defined Morales' past decade.

"The Allstate Foundation's investment has given me space and liberty to think more expansively about youth service and advocacy," Morales said.

## Multiplying Impact by Empowering Youth

The Allstate Foundation's support has created powerful ripple effects beyond Morales' own orbit. After she co-edited a report profiling 14 diverse youth service leaders, the Foundation awarded each featured young changemaker $25,000 to advance their social impact initiatives — moving their impact from the pages of the report into a tangible catalyst for change.

"Something I had thought of as a small act made a huge difference," Morales said.

"It's been inspiring to witness Abrianna's leadership and her commitment to lifting up the voices of her peers,” said Greg Weatherford II, Managing Director, The Allstate Foundation and Social Impact. “She has played a significant role in helping the Foundation understand the nuanced needs of young people across various backgrounds, including those in rural communities. Her dedication has directly contributed to our ability to better empower youth to serve and improve communities."

Such cascading impacts illustrate what Morales sees as true symbiosis — youth passion and vision backed by transformational philanthropic support. "Young people come into this world with such an amazing capacity for imagination," she said. "They're uniquely positioned to see a better world, and philanthropists are uniquely positioned to give them the tools required to make that world a reality."

Now, Morales plans to expand her advocacy work into academic research and policy development. This fall, she'll attend the University of Oxford as a 2025 Rhodes Scholar, studying philosophy, politics and economics. “I’m heading to Oxford with lots of questions, with the hope that I’ll return with some answers and, most of all, a renewed sense of purpose.”
