Intel Fellow Lama Nachman and her team of researchers at Intel are working on optimizing human-AI collaboration. “We are focused on human AI collaboration and the relentless pursuit of developing human-AI systems that amplify human potential, forging a brighter path for how we live, work, and learn” Nachman says. “While at the same time, AI systems continue to improve and become more resilient as a result of the collaboration with users. AI should really be in service of humanity.” Nachman’s team has identified three primary areas the team is focused on for human and AI collaboration that can have real world applications. The first is manufacturing, the second is education, and the third is assistive computing for people with disabilities. For instance, Nachman notes that her team had the privilege of working with Dr. Stephen Hawking, who had ALS. Due to the disease Hawking had lost nearly all ability to move his body independently, but he could control his cheek muscle.
