The process of bonding durable metallic coatings onto plastics and ceramics is widely used in applications where both durability and aesthetics are essential. Developed by Kanto Gakuin University in 1946, the technology laid the foundation for plating pioneer Kanto Kasei. Growing rapidly during the 1960s, when it found a niche producing decorative fittings for Japan’s expanding automotive industry, Kanto Kasei has emphasized its close relationships with academia, continually refining its coating technologies. Fueled by these partnerships, the company is now making a name for itself in new areas, including a cooling system designed for forklifts, golf carts and portable toilets. As Japan records yearly increases in heatstroke cases, Kanto Kasei is finalizing partnerships to commercialize the technology, with over 1,000 golf carts already equipped with the system. President Takeshi Miyazaki believes the market has significant room for growth. “Currently, only several companies offer this technology, and we hold the largest market share,” he said. Building on its legacy in the materials sector, Kanto Kasei is now expanding into new fields. “We want to support society in more ways,” said Miyazaki.
