# Women supporting each other for a healthier future

Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women—but imagine a future where that is no longer the case. The American Heart Association®’s Go Red for Women® movement is founded on the awareness that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented with education and healthy lifestyle changes. The more women and their doctors know about heart health, the more lives can be saved.

And yet, women are underrepresented in cardiovascular research – making up less than 40% of research participants. What’s the trouble with that? Women are not simply smaller men. Their cardiovascular health is influenced by biological differences and rooted in unique life stages, such as pregnancy and menopause. By advancing women-centric research and equipping healthcare providers with the training and knowledge needed to treat them, a future where more women live longer and healthier is within reach.

### Woman of Impact Nominees Create Change Together

Launching on February 7th, 2025, National Wear Red Day®, the Woman of Impact™ campaign is a nationwide competition to raise cardiovascular disease awareness and improve women’s health. Across the country, changemakers build teams with whom they spend nine weeks working to raise critical funds, educate their communities about heart disease warning signs and prevention, and advocate for women’s health across the board.

Not only do these teams reach thousands of people, but the nominees are also involved in interactive learning opportunities that connect them with the Go Red for Women mission. Through their collaboration and inspiration, these nominees and their teams work to advance Go Red for Women’s goals of closing gaps in access to care and championing community support.

At the end of the nine-week competition, the nominee who earns the most points and makes the greatest impact in their community will be named their local Woman of Impact winner. Additionally, the nominee who earns the most points in the country over the course of the campaign will be named the National Woman of Impact Winner, in recognition of their dedication to helping women take charge of their health and wellbeing.
