At the TIME100 AI Impact Dinner, she shared how AI is helping the company rethink its approach to sustainability and drive meaningful innovation. “AI isn’t just about acceleration,” Hurst said. “It’s about disruption.” From improving disaster relief to reducing food waste and tackling water management, Amazon is using AI to drive real impact across the communities where it operates. “Everybody’s concerned about its environmental impact,” she added, “but there’s a huge opportunity as well.” While acknowledging that AI consumes energy, Hurst emphasized that the technology also helps reduce emissions and waste by making systems smarter and more efficient.
