According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. #### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. President Donald Trump told reporters on Saturday that the United States “may” join Saudi Arabia’s strikes on the Iran-backed Houthi militia group, which is based in Yemen, after airport attacks killed at least six people in recent days. The latest attack led to near-complete shutdown of public air traffic into and out of the capital.

His comments came shortly after a fresh attack on Saturday, in which a missile struck the complex housing Terminals 3 and 4 of King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), the second-busiest airport in Saudi Arabia. Dozens were injured. The Houthis, who claimed attacks on the airport earlier in the week, did not immediately claim the latest strike.

It was the latest in a series of attacks over the past week, which began just days after Yemen’s Saudi-backed government announced a major offensive against the Houthis on Oct. 4\.

Two took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, although the information about each has been scarce. A strike on the more southerly Abha International Airport killed two women—one Algerian and one Moroccan—while an attack on KKIA left one Sudanese man dead, the country’s civil aviation authorities [said](https://www.spa.gov.sa/en/N2695853) on Wednesday.

The Houthis [said](https://mobil.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/yemens-houthis-claim-ballistic-missile-strike-on-king-khalid-airport-in-riyadh/4081625) they again targeted KKIA on Thursday; three Saudi citizens, including a pilot, died.

The victims of the past week’s strikes were primarily Saudi but also included individuals from Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Sudan.

Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen, said in a [statement](https://www.spa.gov.sa/en/N2696017) on Friday that the attacks “will not go unpunished.”

Airport strikes are a [signature strategy](https://www.hrw.org/news/2019/06/14/yemen-attack-saudi-airport-apparent-war-crime) from the Houthis; a similar move on Abha in 2019 was denounced as an apparent war crime by the Human Rights Watch.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesperson, on Thursday reiterated an earlier warning for international airlines and passengers to avoid airspace over Saudi Arabia, which had on Monday been [declared](https://alkhabaralyemeni.net/2026/10/05/357838/) an open military operations zone. He also [warned](https://www.yemenipress.net/archives/442020) employees to avoid Saudi oil facilities so as not to endanger their lives, since they are also considered [primary targets](https://www.nytimes.com/video/world/middleeast/100000011192557/houthis-attack-saudi-arabia-oil-yemen-aramco-strikes.html?smid=url-share). He also .

The General Authority of Civil Aviation [announced](https://x.com/ksagaca/status/2108958936044888235) that Riyadh had suspended operations at its main airport on Saturday and was assessing the damage; [FlightAware](https://www.flightaware.com/live/cancelled/today/riyadh) showed 400 cancellations into and out of KKIA as of 11 p.m local time.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh also issued [a security alert](https://sa.usembassy.gov/security-alert-u-s-mission-saudi-arabia-october-10-2026/), warning Americans to avoid KKIA and its surrounding areas as of Saturday.

“U.S. citizens should be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions. We recommend checking your flight departure status directly with the airline and with the airport,” its website said.

## Why has the Saudi-Houthi conflict escalated?

The latest airport attacks followed months of escalating threats to air travel and shipping.

In July, the Houthis [accused](https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/7/13/yemen-govt-says-its-forces-attacked-sanaa-airport) the Saudis of bombing Sanaa International Airport. Yemen’s Saudi-backed government claimed responsibility, saying it had sought to prevent an Iranian plane from landing there.

In response, the Houthis [said](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/20/world/middleeast/yemen-houthis-saudi-arabia-red-sea-blockade.html) that they would impose a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis last month captured both the port city of Mokha and Perim Island in a bid to control the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. With shipping through the Strait of Hormuz already disrupted by the U.S. war with Iran, a threat to traffic through Bab el-Mandeb could deepen the global oil crisis.

In the weeks to follow, Saudi-backed forces have since claimed to retake both seized areas, but the claim has not been independently verified and control remains disputed.

In September, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman [called to urge Trump to act](https://www.axios.com/2026/09/11/houthis-yemen-saudi-trump-mbs-strikes) against the Houthis. The request came as the militia group gained ground over vital chokepoints in the Red Sea.

Although the two nations are allies, Washington explained last month that it did not have plans to get involved in the conflict. TIME has reached out to the White House for comment as the situation evolves.

Trump’s renewed consideration of strikes in Yemen comes as the war with Iran remains deeply unpopular at home: 69% of Americans said it had not been worth fighting in an [AP-NORC poll](https://apnorc.org/projects/most-blame-president-trump-for-higher-prices-and-are-unhappy-with-how-he-is-handling-the-economy/) from Oct. 1\.

On Thursday, Trump said the U.S. would not attack Iran before the Nov. 3 midterms—a pledge that does not address possible strikes on the Houthis in Yemen.
