### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. King Harald V of Norway, a reformer and Europe’s oldest monarch, died Friday at the age of 89\. His son, the newly-proclaimed King Haakon VIII, has inherited the Norwegian throne.

Harald passed away peacefully in his sleep at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet at 6:35 a.m., local time, the royal palace of Norway [said](https://www.kongehuset.no/).

“A whole nation is in mourning and the people of Norway are left with a deep sense of gratitude for a long life in the service of Norway,” [said](https://www.regjeringen.no/en/whats-new/a-whole-nation-is-in-mourning/id3171441/) Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. “For more than three decades as monarch, Harald V demonstrated an unwavering faith in the Norwegian people. He helped us to see the best in ourselves—and in one another.”

Harald had been [admitted](https://www.kongehuset.no/presse/pressemeldinger/kongen-er-innlagt-pa-rikshospitalet) to the hospital on Aug. 17 and placed on sick leave after corticosteroid treatment for haemolytic anemia caused fluid retention that required hospital care, the palace revealed. His son, then-Crown Prince Haakon, 53, served as regent while his father was on leave.

In an update on Aug. 23, the palace [announced](https://www.kongehuset.no/presse/pressemeldinger/oppdatering-om-kongens-helse) the King’s condition had worsened and that he would remain in the hospital to receive antibiotics for a bacterial infection in his bloodstream. In recent days, Norwegians had begun to[ lay flowers](https://www.euronews.com/video/2026/08/28/hundreds-gather-in-oslo-to-support-norways-king-harald-v) in front of the palace in Oslo after the royal household said his condition had become [“very serious.”](https://www.kongehuset.no/presse/pressemeldinger/hans-majestet-kongens-helse-er-forverret)

Harald has been [described](https://www.stortinget.no/no/Stortinget-og-demokratiet/Organene/Presidentskapet/013201/tale-ved-kongeparets-25-arsjubileum-som-regenter/) as a monarch who modernized the institution. His marriage broke with royal convention when he wed the non-royal Sonja Haraldsen in 1968 after a lengthy struggle for permission from his family.

In a widely noted[ 2016 Palace garden speech](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQtLxYde-rw), Harald defined Norwegianness as encompassing immigrants, people of different religions, and LGBTQ people. "Norwegians are girls who love girls, boys who love boys, and girls and boys who love each other. Norwegians believe in God, Allah, everything and nothing," he said.

While Norway is a constitutional monarchy, with the king serving as head of state similar to other royal houses in Europe, Norwegian monarchs have largely held[ symbolic roles](https://undervisning.stortinget.no/maktfordeling/hva-gjor-kongen/), as legislative power rests with an elected parliament.

Stortinget, Norway’s parliament,[ said](https://x.com/Stortinget/status/2093266276223193365) Friday that the King’s reign “was [marked](https://x.com/Stortinget/status/2093227096340312118) by closeness to the people” thanks to “the unifying way in which he has exercised his royal duties.”

Norway will observe a period of mourning, with flags at royal residences, government buildings, and military installations set to[ remain](https://www.regjeringen.no/no/dokumenter/hans-majestet-kong-haralds-bortgang-veiledning-til-den-nasjonale-sorgeperioden/id3171460/) at half-mast.

Church bells rang out on Friday. The Church of Norway [said](https://www.kirken.no/nb-NO/om-kirken/aktuelt/2026/sorgegudstjenester-sondag-30-august-2026/) it will arrange mourning services for the first Sunday after the King’s death.

As Norway mourns its long-reigning monarch, thoughts are also turning to his successor, who has been tasked with carrying on his father's legacy.

Here’s what to know about what comes next and how King Harald is being remembered by his peers and European leaders.

### What happens next—who has succeeded King Harald of Norway?

When a monarch in Norway[ passes away](https://www.regjeringen.no/en/whats-new/what-happens-when-a-monarch-passes-away/id3171457/), the next person in the order of succession automatically becomes King or Queen, as the country cannot be without a head of state.

While succession was previously restricted to male heirs,[ since 1990](https://www.kongehuset.no/monarkiet/arverekken) the Constitution was amended so female and male children would be included on an equal footing in the order of succession. However, for those born before the change, a male child retains precedence over an older female sibling.

While Princess Märtha Louise is Harald’s[ eldest child](https://www.britannica.com/biography/Harald-V), the crown has passed down to his son, Haakon.

As such, Haakon’s daughter Ingrid Alexandra is now Crown Princess and heir apparent—the next person in line to the throne.

The Norwegian government[ convened](https://www.regjeringen.no/no/aktuelt/statsministeren-og-regjeringa-sitt-program-i-samband-med-hans-majestet-kong-harald-vs-dod/id3171442/) for an extraordinary cabinet meeting at the palace on Friday at 11:30 a.m., local time, where ministers met the new King.

There will be no formal coronation as Norway’s parliament[ removed](https://www.kongehuset.no/monarkiet/signingstradisjonen) the constitutional requirement for coronations in 1908, deeming the ceremony to be undemocratic and outdated.

### What to know about King Haakon VIII and his wife, Mette-Marit

As the only son of Harald and Sonja, Haakon somewhat broke with tradition in his younger years when he moved out of the country to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he obtained a BA in political science in 1999.

Haakon wed Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby in 2001, a non-royal and single mother of Marius Borg Høiby.

The couple welcomed their first child together, Ingrid Alexandra, in 2004 and had their son, Sverre Magnus, a year later.

Marius Borg Høiby, Mette-Marit’s eldest child, was [found guilty](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly9d10l5p4o) of two counts of rape and was sentenced to four years in prison in June.

In recent years, Mette-Marit has suffered with poor health, after being [diagnosed](https://www.kongehuset.no/nyheter/kronprinsessens-helsetilstand) with a chronic lung disease—what the palace referred to as an “unusual variant of fibrosis”—in 2018\.

In July, Mette-Marit shared a statement upon being discharged from hospital after undergoing a [lung transplant](https://www.kongehuset.no/presse/pressemeldinger/kronprinsessen-er-skrevet-ut-fra-rikshospitalet). “It has given me the gift of life, and words fall short when I try to describe how grateful and humble I am for this,” she said of the surgery.

Mette-Marit has come under scrutiny over her contact with the late convicted sex offender [Jeffrey Epstein](https://time.com/5621911/jeffrey-epstein-sex-trafficking-what-to-know/).

[Files released](https://time.com/7362445/epstein-files-million-pages-trump-department-justice/) by the Justice Department in January showed she had [maintained](https://www.vg.no/rampelys/i/e7Pma4/kronprinsesse-mette-marit-og-jeffrey-epstein-i-dialog-i-2014) correspondence with Epstein in the years after he pled guilty on two counts of soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008.

“Jeffrey Epstein is personally responsible for his actions. I must take responsibility for not checking Epstein’s background more thoroughly and for not understanding quickly enough what kind of person he was,” Mette-Marit said in a [statement](https://www.kongehuset.no/nyheter/uttalelse) on Jan. 30 2026\. “I deeply regret that, and this is a responsibility I must take. I showed poor judgment and regret ever having had any contact with Epstein. It is simply embarrassing. I want to express my deep sympathy and solidarity with the victims of the abuses committed by Jeffrey Epstein.”

During a [TV interview](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cde5y63y3n7o) in March, Mette-Marit, while sitting beside her husband Haakon, said she wished she had never met Epstein and again expressed regret over the contact.
