### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

[Harry and Meghan](https://time.com/collections/100-most-influential-people-2021/6096108/prince-harry-meghan/), the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are expected to move back to the United Kingdom later this year, after six years of living in the U.S. during a period of estrangement from the rest of the Royal family.

The couple are set to move with their children, [Prince Archie](https://time.com/5532649/meghan-markle-royal-baby-latest-news/), 7, and [Princess Lilibet](https://time.com/6071842/meghan-harry-daughter-lili/), 5, to a non-royal residence that is said to be outside of London, with both children enrolled to start at a British school in September. The news was first reported by the [Daily Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2026/08/19/exclusive-harry-and-meghan-move-back-to-britain/) on Wednesday, with multiple outlets since [reporting](https://apnews.com/article/prince-harry-meghan-lilibet-archie-2a26920acb7ed33bb590654bfd57702b) similar details.

The move follows years of Prince Harry arguing that the security arrangements provided for his family in the U.K. were insufficient. In May 2025, Prince Harry lost an [appeal](https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Duke-of-Sussex-v-Secretary-of-State-for-the-Home-Department-summary.pdf) after the British government downgraded his security arrangements following his decision, along with Meghan, to step back from Royal duties in 2020\.

Asked on Thursday about the move and if the British government would pay for the family’s security, Prime Minister Andy Burnham [said](https://news.sky.com/story/harry-and-meghan-latest-duke-and-duchess-of-sussex-moving-back-to-uk-13574885?postid=12254507#liveblog-body) the issue was “a private matter” and that he “wishes them well in the move that they are making.”

[King Charles III](https://time.com/tag/king-charles-coronation/) was [reportedly](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2026/08/19/exclusive-harry-and-meghan-move-back-to-britain/) informed of the couple’s move on Sunday, and in line with their wishes, the Duke and Duchess will not return to their duties previously held as members of the Royal family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last visited the U.K. in July and were [hosted](https://kings-foundation.org/visit/highgrove-gardens/) by Charles and Queen Camilla at their private residence, Highgrove House, in Gloucestershire, west England.

[Prince Harry](https://time.com/collection/time100-sports/2026/prince-harry/) also spent time [attending](https://x.com/WeAreInvictus/status/2075580132190740532) events across the country linked to the Invictus Games, a sporting event established by the Duke involving injured or sick international servicemen and women.

Neither the Royal family nor Harry and Meghan have responded publicly to the reports. When asked about the speculation during a roundtable event in Washington on Wednesday, Harry said he had “nothing to say,” per the [Associated Press](https://apnews.com/article/prince-harry-meghan-lilibet-archie-2a26920acb7ed33bb590654bfd57702b).

TIME has reached out to Buckingham Palace, as well as representatives of the Duke and Duchess for comment.

# **Harry and Meghan’s break from the Royal family**

Harry and Meghan initially lived and worked in the U.K. following their [wedding](https://time.com/5039393/royal-wedding-2018-details/) in May 2018\. But amid intense media scrutiny and other issues, they soon expressed desires to pull back from public-facing Royal duties.

In October 2019, the couple said they would be taking “family time” away from their duties towards the end of the year, [CNN](https://edition.cnn.com/2019/10/20/uk/meghan-harry-break-gbr-intl-scli) reported.

Then in January 2020, the Duke and Duchess [announced ](https://www.instagram.com/p/B7EaGS%5FJpb9/)their [decision](https://time.com/5761547/prince-harry-meghan-markle-step-back-senior-royals/) “to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent.” The couple said they would split time between the U.K. and North America, to “enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter.”

The late [Queen Elizabeth II](https://time.com/4619423/queen-elizabeth-dies/) issued a [statement](https://time.com/5763086/queen-statement-prince-harry-meghan-markle/) in support of the decision after “constructive discussions” with the family, and following a 12-month review, Buckingham Palace [confirmed](https://www.royal.uk/buckingham-palace-statement-duke-and-duchess-sussex) in February 2021 that Harry and Meghan would not be returning as working members of the Royal family.

“While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family,” a statement read.

The next month, Harry and Meghan sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a now-[infamous interview](https://time.com/5944613/meghan-markle-oprah-racism/) during which they detailed their decisions to move away from the Royal family and the apparatus around it, which Meghan referred to as “[The Firm](https://time.com/5945032/what-is-the-firm-royal-family/)”.

In the [interview](https://time.com/5944946/oprah-meghan-harry-interview-effective/), Harry said the decision to withdraw from public duties and move to California was both due to the amount of tabloid press scrutiny and harassment, as well as a lack of support from “The Firm.”

Tabloid headlines focused on Meghan have [included](https://time.com/6241468/harry-meghan-netflix-docuseries-race/) descriptions of the Duchess as “gangster royalty” and coming from a “crime-ridden neighborhood.”

In 2023,Harry published his memoir, [_Spare_](https://time.com/6246029/prince-harry-spare-review/), outlining details of Royal life. In his book, the Duke [revealed](https://time.com/6245103/prince-harry-spare-memoir-revelations/) how he learned of his grandmother’s death, Queen Elizabeth II, via the BBC, and how his father, Charles, did not hug him following the death of his mother, [Princess Diana](https://time.com/tag/princess-diana/), in 1997.

While in the U.S., the couple have launched a number of business ventures, including several with Netflix.
