### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

The [United Arab Emirates](https://time.com/tag/united-arab-emirates/) (UAE) announced Tuesday that “all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice,” alleging that [Iran](https://time.com/tag/iran/) had fired two ballistic missiles toward it.

The country’s foreign ministry [said](https://x.com/mofauae/status/2089808983880327494/photo/2) the decision comes “in light of regional escalations that undermine regional and international peace and security.”

Earlier Tuesday, the UAE’s Ministry of Defense [reported](https://x.com/modgovae/status/2089801621488410973) that two missiles launched from Iran toward the country, both of which fell into the sea. The statement said it “affirms its readiness to respond to any threats and to resolutely counter any attempts to undermine the security of the country or the safety of maritime navigation in the region.”

Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, [rejected](https://t.me/farsna/456900) the Emirati claim on Tuesday, saying that it “undermines ongoing efforts to strengthen trust between countries in the region and prevent the escalation of insecurity,” according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

“The impact on the Iranian economy could be significant,” Simon Henderson, director of the Bernstein Program on Gulf and Energy Policy at the Washington Institute, tells TIME. “The UAE is one of the top non-oil trading partners with Iran.”

As of April, the UAE accounts for 12.5% of Iran’s exports and 30.43% of its imports, according to Iranian news agency [WANA](https://wanaen.com/share-of-arab-countries-involved-in-the-war-in-irans-trade/).

Iran’s [dollar](https://time.com/article/2026/08/18/us-iran-oman-war-peace-deal-strait-hormuz-trump/) currently ranks as the least valuable currency in the world, and its government [told a Russian news agency](https://en.irna.ir/news/86127598/War-reparations-among-key-issues-in-Iran-US-talks-govt-spokesperson) in April that the war has already cost it some $270 billion in direct and indirect damages.

## Regional instability amid the war in Iran

Stability in the region is fragile, as a number of incidents have been recently reported in the [Strait of Hormuz](https://time.com/article/2026/03/17/what-is-the-strait-of-hormuz-global-trade-oil-flow-iran-war/). On Tuesday, a vessel reported that it had been struck by an unknown projectile, causing damage to the engine room and a crew casualty, [according](https://www.ukmto.org/-/media/ukmto/products/20260818--ukmto%5Fwarning%5Fattack%5F115-26.pdf?rev=d0a1cce189c941058b30fb5094c466d9) to the U.K. Trade Maritime Operations Centre (UKMTO). Last Thursday, a separate vessel was [struck](https://x.com/UK%5FMTO/status/2088176654409507310) by a drone.

The UAE has previously reported the detection of missiles coming toward it, most recently on July 12, when it [confirmed](https://x.com/modgovae/status/2076209070168826183) that a missile fell outside of its borders.

In May, the defense ministry [reported](https://x.com/modgovae/status/2056750382194528552) that it had intercepted six unmanned aerial vehicles within 48 hours that “attempted to target civilian and vital areas in the country.”

One drone, launched from the direction of the UAE’s western border, struck an electricity generator near the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant on May 17\. Its origin has not been confirmed and is under investigation.

During the first few weeks of the conflict, Iran [launched](https://time.com/7381884/iran-missiles-dubai-palm-gulf/) a series of more aggressive strikes on targets in the UAE, hitting military, energy, and civilian infrastructure. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) [vowed](https://t.me/Tasnimnews/391118) at the time to “punish aggressors throughout the region,” pointing toward U.S. military assets stationed in the country, as well as other Gulf states.

Tehran resumed [targeting](https://time.com/article/2026/07/09/us-iran-strikes-trump-ceasefire-gulf-region/) U.S. allies in the Middle East, including Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain during the [return to hostilities](https://time.com/article/2026/07/08/us-iran-ceasefire-over-trump-strikes-strait-of-hormuz/) in early July, when negotiations based upon a [Memorandum of Understanding](https://time.com/article/2026/06/17/us-iran-peace-deal-agreement-leaked-draft-text/) collapsed.

## Where do peace plans between the U.S. and Iran stand?

Peace talks between the United States and Iran have made little progress in recent weeks.

President Donald Trump [said](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/117116752164653735) Tuesday that “there are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled,” between the U.S. and Iran. He also reaffirmed that the [naval blockade](https://time.com/article/2026/04/12/trump-blockade-strait-of-hormuz-iran/) on Iranian ports and vessels remains in place, amid ongoing claims that the Strait of Hormuz is “open and operating.”

Marine traffic data [suggested](https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:56.5/centery:26.3/zoom:9) Wednesday that some ships were indeed passing through the Strait, but still at significantly lower levels than before the conflict began.

Earlier this week, the President also [threatened](https://time.com/article/2026/08/18/us-iran-oman-war-peace-deal-strait-hormuz-trump/) to “bomb the s---” of Oman, a U.S. ally and mediator between Washington and Tehran, should it “get in the way” of U.S. attempts to gain effective international control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Oman and Iran have reportedly been [working toward](https://t.me/Tasnimnews/438652) an agreement to manage traffic through the Strait, which carries roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and gas supply.
