The U.S. Marshals Service arrested the Tates in Miami on Saturday and took them into custody on a sealed warrant. The Tates, who have British and American citizenship and moved to Romania in 2016, have since been detained and are [scheduled to appear](https://apnews.com/article/andrew-tristan-tate-sex-trafficking-rape-uk-miami-3a3748e075f49b00f286a003f5103485) in U.S. federal court on Monday. The U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which prosecutes criminal cases investigated by police and other authorities in England and Wales, [said in a statement](https://www.cps.gov.uk/national-news/news/cps-decides-prosecute-tate-brothers-additional-sexual-offences) that they are seeking extradition for the brothers. The Saturday arrest is the latest chapter of an international [legal saga](https://time.com/7262710/andrew-tate-tristan-manosphere-repatriation-us-trump-conservatives-reactions-explainer/) involving the Tates—who have faced accusations of rape, trafficking, sexual assault, and other wrongdoing, spanning from Romania to the U.K. Meanwhile, the two have amassed support from the American right as prominent figures of the so-called “[manosphere](https://time.com/7010220/young-men-mental-health-online-essay/)” and supporters of President Donald Trump. Atty. Joseph McBride, who represents the Tates, asserted the brothers’ innocence and called the U.K.’s charges “a political hit ordered by a dying empire.” Whether the Tates are extradited to the U.K. ultimately falls to U.S. [Secretary of State Marco Rubio](https://www.state.gov/extraditions). The Tates’ camp expressed confidence that the extradition request will be denied. “Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free,” McBride [said in a statement](https://x.com/McBrideLawNYC/status/2078643684623659073) Saturday. “America does not do Britain's political dirty work. Not here. Never.” Here’s what to know. ## What are the new charges? The Crown Prosecution Service, in a statement after the arrest, said it charged the brothers related to alleged offenses between July 2010 and August 2017 involving four alleged victims. It charged Andrew Tate, 39, with seven counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 charges for offenses connected to indecent images of a child and “extreme pornography.” Tristan Tate, 38, meanwhile, was charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The 38 new charges stem from continuing investigations into other alleged offenses reported to the Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary. The Tates already face [previous charges](https://apnews.com/article/tate-brothers-andrew-tristan-rape-uk-britain-085cf07c394f4ead035b86f981060e92) in the U.K. for rape and other crimes. With the additions, the total number of charges against the brothers in the U.K. is now 59\. Bedfordshire Police assistant chief constable Karena Thomas said [in a statement](https://x.com/bedspolice/status/2078772082679103634) announcing the arrest Sunday: “There is no place for male violence against women and girls in our society, and we will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports made to us.” The Tates were previously arrested in 2022 in Romania. The following year, the brothers and two others were charged by Romanian prosecutors with human trafficking, while Andrew faces an additional rape charge. They have contested those charges. British authorities previously sought the Tates’ extradition to the U.K. once their legal proceedings in Romania concluded, and a Romanian [court approved the request](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-68547871). The State Department, then under the first-term Trump Administration, [cited diplomatic immunity](https://time.com/5770960/harry-dunn-us-refuses-extradite-sacoolas/) for refusing the request. ## What is Trump’s connection with the Tates? There’s been some speculation online about whether Trump, whom the dual-citizen brothers supported, could intervene in the case. When the brothers returned to the U.S. from Romania in 2025, questions loomed over a potential White House intervention. Romania’s foreign minister said that a Trump Administration official had expressed interest in the brothers’ legal case there.
